Vetro, The Oberoi, Mumbai Nariman Point

Vetro, in association with Hassler Hotel, Rome, is located at the lobby level of The Oberoi, Mumbai. The restaurant owes its name to the extensive use of glass in the design and interiors of the restaurant.  Vetro, which means ‘glass’ in Italian, captures the sunlight in different hues, changing the mood of the restaurant at different times of the day.  The lounge and restaurant is designed to reflect the sophisticated and cosmopolitan flavour of contemporary Italian lifestyle. The ambience exudes elegance with the use of natural ‘crema marfil’ marble flooring, lacquered panels and flattering lighting. Guests enter into a comfortable lounge, a perfect place for a pre or post-meal drink.  The lounge naturally flows from the restaurant’s main entrance into the dining area with the Enoteca, or wine library, dominating the space.

Vetro’s Enoteca continues to be very popular with guests, and is one of the only dedicated wine libraries in the city.  Guests entering the glass-enclosed wine library will appreciate the floor-to-ceiling displays of wine, and a special table for wine and cheese tasting.  Here, diners may sample a selection of four white and four red wines before deciding on the perfect bottle to accompany their meal.  A cheese fromagier houses a range of cheeses, imported from different regions of Italy.  The Enoteca’s 800-plus bottles of the finest wines include one of the largest offerings of Italian wines in the country – with selections from Fruili, Piedmont, Toscana and Venetto.  Vetro also offers a range of “Super Tuscans”, often referred to as the best wines from Toscana.

The restaurant’s kitchen blends with the overall ambience, with a large picture window through which diners can view the culinary skills of the team.  A Chef’s Table adjacent to the kitchen also benefits from this view.  The Table can accommodate up to eight guests and is a perfect location for a memorable meal, created exclusively for them by Chef Vincenzo di Tuoro and his team.

For lunch, the menu at Vetro focuses on light and delicate food for the power-lunching Corporate guest and also provides the perfect setting for social afternoons.  The menu includes a range of salads and soups, as well as a variety of items from the antipasti counter.  Guests at dinner can choose from a wide selection of Italian classics, such as hearty soups, home-made pastas, risotto, seafood and meats, complemented by truffle essence, saffron, and other distinctive flavours.  Those with a sweet tooth will delight in the home-made ice-cream, frozen yogurts and fresh biscotti, as well as other decadent Italian dolce.  A selection of regional Italian cheeses completes the meal.

Olive Bar & Kitchen, Mahalaxmi Racecourse Mahalaxmi Racecourse

In August 2008, Olive threw open the doors of its second eatery in Mumbai, at the serene, leafy expanse of the Amateur Riders Club at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse. Exquisitely designed by Nozer Wadia, the restaurant transports guests to a space reminiscent of a rustic cottage in the Mediterranean countryside, complete with a neighbouring stable full of purebred horses. This secluded place offers a refreshing escape from the faster pace of the city around it.

At Olive, superb Mediterranean fare and fine wines are the highlight of a peaceful afternoon or evening, with Chef Manu Chandra’s prodigious talent finding form in a surprisingly light lunch menu of sandwiches, quiches, organic soups and salads, pastas, pizzas and desserts. And an inspired dinner menu that’s pure hedonism for the connoisseur.

It’s an experience the city’s beautiful people have unreservedly taken to their hearts.

The Table, Colaba Apollo Bunder Marg

Mumbai’s trendy SoBo district opens its space to a tranquil, timelessrestaurant: The Table. Located just around the corner from the famous Taj Hotel in Colaba, this casual fine diner offers its gourmands & food aficionado’s a place to savour globally inspired cuisine - community style.

Owners Jay Yousuf and Gauri Devidayal, team up with the San Francisco Bay area’s Consultant Chef Joey Altman and Executive Chef Alex Sanchez and this city’s very own Executive Chef Viraf Patel and Naveen Kotyankar. They have collectively conceptualized The Table to be a destination for people to come relax and enjoy the company of friends while sharing a great meal.

The old Irani restaurant that occupied this space previously was transformed by New York based architect, Tarik Currimbhoy. Tall French doors welcome one to The Table, a restaurant which is an orchestration of bold strokes of form, pattern and colour, complemented by pendant skirt lights that descend from the ceiling and gleaming black Victorian Bombay arches which wrap around from the outside of the building to the inside. The arches draped with beige sheers, a black and white hand chiselled stone Chevron floor, a long Burma teak community table and a floating mezzanine with its musical notes shaped railing - all work together to create a site specific sculpted space, a Bombay style San Francisco inspired wine bar.

"The Table" aptly draws its name from the 20ft cross cut Burma Teak table that extends from a bar to a community table with revolving bar stools where one might discover stimulating conversation with strangers while sipping on some of the finest wines and devouring the most delectable meal.

The bar at The Table offers over 60 wines, imported & local, selected by the celebrated Naveen Kotyankar. His unique idea of serving wine by the half glass will allow you to appreciate and try more of the elaborate selection of wines.

The kitchen turns out a globally inspired menu which reflects the three chefs’ collective experiences and changes daily depending on availability of the best produce. It has influences of the San Francisco style of cooking which is translated through sourcing fresh local ingredients and ensuring each dish is distinctively unique in flavour and texture.

Hakkasan Bandra, Mumbai

An instant success when it opened in London in 2001, Hakkasan has a unique combination of glamour and elegance, contemporary yet traditional food, modern yet ethnic decor, a nightclub ambience and superlative food and service.

Hakkasan Mumbai seats 120 guests. This includes a Private Dining Area seating 12 persons. The Ling Ling lounge area will also have seating for 44 guests and the bar will seat 15. The decor has been interpreted by the concept architectural and design firm, Gilles & Boissier, Paris.

Hakkasan’s design moves away from the stark minimalism associated with contemporary Chinese restaurants with a view of ‘bringing back the dragon’ and creating a modern ethnic interior. The design elements at Hakkasan translate traditional Chinese motifs, such as lanterns and screens into a contemporary language. This contrasts with the lighter tones of backlit blue glass that surround the perimeter of the restaurant. The restaurant comprises dark stained English oak tables, screens and latticing. An open-plan kitchen is visible from the restaurant, making the activity in the kitchen part of the restaurant’s theatre.

The design of the lounge area - Ling Ling - reflects the old school decadence of Chinoiserie – punctuated with signature traditionally drawn panels – while an extraordinary wall of sawn slate provides a dramatic backdrop to the nocturnal bar activity. The 16-metre bar, a mystical melange of blue glass and stainless steel, is the centre of attention.

Hakkasan Mumbai’s menu promises to deliver the original experience. The talented team of chefs are ably led by Executive Chef Kent Lee, who has worked with Hakkasan for over 8 years.

Eight chefs have been especially flown in from Hakkasan, London to assist him. Master Dim Sum Chef, Chef Soon from Hakkasan, London will be a part of this team. Chef Soon has been a part of the Hakkasan founding team and has been committed to ensuring the superlative meal experience of the brand. In addition to signature dishes such as Grilled Chilean seabass with Chinese honey and PiPa Duck, Hakkasan Mumbai will also serve an extensive vegetarian selection including dishes such as Stir fried lotus root, asparagus and yam bean and Tofu and aubergine clay-pot.

Chef Tong Chee Hwee, Hakkasan London’s Head Chef, has been instrumental in creating the menu for Mumbai. The Hakkasan International Development team will redesign the menu twice a year based on market preferences and trends.

The wine cellar comprises over 900 bottles of wine and a selection of 125 labels especially chosen to complement Hakkasan’s menu. The sommelier at the restaurant will assist each guest in the menu selection in addition to the descriptive wine list.

The extensive beverage offering will include a wide array of teas from the best producers in Taiwan. Dragon Well green tea and High Mountain Oolong’s are a few in the extensive selection of teas. All are brewed and served to precise instructions while observing detailed etiquette to deliver the best flavour.

“Hakkasan’s anticipative sense of design, mysteriously elegant atmosphere and unique menu will without a doubt captivate the taste buds of the discerning patrons. We are proud to bring Hakkasan to Mumbai” said Hakkasan’s spokesperson.
