About the Restaurant

The Zen Experience

Zen is the beginning and the end; Zen is the way of life, encompassing ALL. Originating as Buddhist teaching from India, it spread widely across the
Asia pacific countries. Zen is said to be a journey towards excellence. This same superiority was incarnated at the Leela by launching its Pan Asian
Restaurant Zen.

A seating capacity of 140 guests, this is an iota of pure oriental bliss. Its extensive menu ranges from the Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Korean. Live counters of Teppanyaki (slices of meat and grilled vegetables & served on a hot plate), Yakitori (Bite sized chicken grilled and skewered), Korean Barbeque and Noodle bar set high the creative spirits. Fresh sushi (raw fish), sashimi (fish on a rice palate), tamaki and makimono are no only a rush of nostalgia for an expert traveler but satiates the freshers alike. On the wine list, Rice wines and Soju are some of the potions to push your spirits high and get you started for the most exquisite meal.

The ambience is an added asset of this restaurant apart from delectable delicacies for our discerning guests. It is a subtle blend of color, flow and symmetry. Austere interiors, a black and a white combination, is very well contrasted to the vibrant greenery enveloping it. The contemporary Buddha seated calmly next to the bamboo shoot waterfalls reflects the true Zen spirit. The dining is spread over two floors and the exteriors are just an out of the world experience.

Our speciality chefs have a world of an experience on side, has a fetish for contending his guests with the flavors of the day. This outlet is open for exotic lunches and dinners.  For some tasteful moments to remember, join the brigade to brilliance at the Zen.

Chef Adrian Peter Mellor

Adrian Peter Mellor, Executive Chef extraordinaire at The Leela Palace, Bangalore, has garnered an enviable twenty-three years of professional experience as Chef from various award-winning hotels and fine dining restaurants in Asia and Europe. His kitchen brigades are a mélange of nationalities, a lot like the assorted flavours of refinement his modern European cuisine has evolved into. It may seem that one so immersed in the creative world of gourmet cannot have a solid disposition as far as the business side of the job is concerned. But Adrian handles it with what can only be called natural flair. With a solid understanding of the business side of the job and great work ethics he has time and again proven himself as a disciplined leader. He is a product of the Tameside College of Technology, Ashton under Lyne, England.

What began in May '87, saw Adrian coursing through, from commis to Chef de Partie in 6 years, gaining invaluable experience all along. He later specialized in modern European cuisine under the guidance of Chef David Cavalier during his sojourn as Senior Sous Chef at Bell Inn, Aston Clinton, Bucks, England.

Adrian's appetite for cooking up exciting new dishes may have best been stimulated while he worked very closely with the 3 Michelin star Chef Nico Ladenis himself, even taking charge of operations at the different Nico's outlets in the Chef's absence.

Between May '97 and Oct 2005 with the far-east beckoning him, Adrian rose to greater publicity, gaining a loyal and large following of both expats and locals for his exquisite European fare while at restaurants like Qhue and Les Amis in Singapore and the Old Manila restaurant in Philippines.

Even the royals came calling as Adrian went on to serve as Private Chef at The Royal Hashemite Court in Jordan where he gallantly carried out his responsibilities, overseeing the catering for all the official functions of their majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania.

Then came Amangalla, Sri Lanka, The Oberoi Rajvilas, where he also oversaw the opening of their new speciality restaurant (The hotel was voted the 2nd best in the world and 1st in Asia by 'Travel and Leisure') and subsequently The Waldorf Astoria, Maldives.

Today at The Leela Palace, Bangalore, Adrian continues to add his flourishing touches and work magic into his brand of modern European cuisine.
