About the Restaurant

The word ‘Durbar’ comes from Persia, meaning a ‘kings court’. From times immemorial, kings and leaders have held ‘Durbars’ or courts to discuss matters of importance.

For us, at Swissôtel Kolkata, food  is a topic of mammoth importance and  holds court in all conversation. So, we decided to name our contemporary Indian restaurant ‘Durbari’ – a place for good food, great ambience and even greater company.

At Durbari, the modern meets old world décor, creates a cosy yet luxurious ambience.

Conceived after six months of extensive travel and food tastings across the country, the comprehensive menu on offer showcases the vast culinary heritage of India on a platter.

The creamy tandoor-cooked chicken breast and pan-fried fish emerge as forerunners from the extensive kebabs selection. Techniques such as slow cooking ensure that the taste is not compromised. Dishes like Cochin prawns simmered in coconut milk; coastal spices and kokum; Bhetki doused in mustard flavoured curry and Awadhi lamb biryani are some of the dishes that reflect Durbari's diversity. There is a lovely fusion of ingredients both Indian and Swiss, such as naan stuffed with melted Swiss cheese.

In a city where meals don't end without desserts, Durbari serves delectable desserts like Mishti Doi Mousse and a paan flavoured ice cream.

Since its inception in July 2011, Durbari has attracted food lovers from all over the city.

Chef Subhrodeep Ghosh

Durbari Chef Subhrodeep Ghosh has created a buzz in the city with his self sculptured Indian dishes which he has mastered in his career of 18 years, where he has worked in innumerable cities with several brands. His Signature delicacies are appreciated by all. He has got an array of Indian dishes to offer starting from the authentic homemade food to the contemporary Indian cuisine. He has also mastered the art of fusion cuisine as well.
